Upon close scrutiny I must insist that this photo does not show dark blue covers to the officers’ helmets, but rather helmets made up in blue fabric same color as the undress frock. The horizontal crown band is clearly visible. It is of course impossible to know if this item was peculiar to HMS ‘Boadicea’ personnel as shown. Also note sailor at right rear (in whites) also wearing one such helmet. Further thoughts?

on closer inspection I must agree with you and have amended the photo’s caption. I have never encountered this helmet before but it all adds to the sum of knowledge so thanks for being so diligent.
